caffeinated

I’ve amassed a number of photos over the past year (year?!? it has sped by!) that are yet to make it onto this platform. Fear not, they will come soon!

Attempting to name this post is a nice reminder from way back of how I’ve always struggled to name my photography :] I much prefer ‘Coffee #2’ :D

This week I spent some time thinking about photo sharing on social media back when I blogged regularly (circa early 2010s) and now. Instagram wasn't as pervasive and Facebook album posting was the norm. Given that I use Instagram regularly nowadays I post single pictures, maybe with an emoji or my favorite hashtag (#californiaing) and the location. There were times that I thought about doing this during the week on this platform and realized it completely derailed the point of having a blog — there must be words! I also debated if I should just make weekly albums on the site main page, or if I should write and post a picture. Leaving it as a trial-and-error experiment for now. Anyway, fascinating to reflect on how much photo sharing had changed since I got into photography seven years ago and also what role social media plays in sharing… do people post for themselves, for others, for what? Does there have to be a deliberate intention behind the art?

Earlier this past week I was on a Zoom call outside in the engineering quad, looked up and realized this would make for a cool photo. Realized after the fact there was the lamppost, but alas, this is what I have. Novelty of palm trees and January warmth are yet to wear off :-)

i'm back - blog 2.0!

Once upon a time I maintained a photography blog that accompanied iota photography, my photography business. Posts were a combination of new pictures for cards (which were sold on iota), the results of doing my friend’s senior pictures, the occasional explication of an ad I really liked from T Magazine, and outcomes of walks with my then camera, Léonard. College, research, and life happened and I ended up retiring the blog.

I’ve been reading a lot these days, got a subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud, and noticed myself intently observing my surroundings more like I used to when I used to take pictures regularly, so I decided that I’m going to try this one out again. Stay tuned!
